GC Alumni are graduates of the college or those who completed a full year. We share a rich legacy with some 20,000 of us from the past 185 years and graduating Seniors are inducted into the Alumni Association at Spring Convocation. There are no dues or fees.
The Alumni Association is led by a representative board of volunteers that meets three times each year, and recognizes three distinguished alumni and one outstanding faculty member with awards presented at Homecoming each fall.
Our largest alumni event, Homecoming, will take place on October 24-25, 2025. During this time, we will gather for class reunions and affinity reunions, present awards and accolades, cheer on our athletic teams, and celebrate college milestones.
Come and share our Pride.
Keep Roaring!

Alumni Relations Staff

Julie Schatz ’89
Executive Director For Development and Alumni Relations
Main Building, Room 225
One could say Julie grew up on the Greensboro College campus. Her babysitter often brought her to campus where she was inspired by the college culture and started counting down the years until she could head off to GC. Fast forward to 1989 when Julie graduated from GC with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Minor in Art. Her favorite class was Statistics where she met her husband, Gary.
Julie worked for three decades in the admissions department at GC with the last position as Dean of Admissions. She started her career in 1990. A large majority of the Alumni based she most likely toured, worked with and/or admitted them to the College!
She is eager to reconnect with those she met along the way and make new friendships with those who proceeded before her.

Sharon Van Winckel
Advancement Services Administrator
Main Building, Room 229
Phone: (336) 272-7102, x5265)
Sharon joined the GC Development staff in 2022 as a Development Services Administrator. With a strong background in accounting and administrative services, she has become an invaluable asset to our team. Her expertise in stewardship ensures that our development efforts are both effective and sustainable. Having attended a private college in New York, which shares many similarities to Greensboro College, Sharon feels a deep connection to our community and its values. This personal connection, combined with her professional skills, makes her a perfect fit for our team.

Elena Wegner Henry ’02
Director of Development Services
Main Building, Room 224
Phone: (336) 217-7228
As the sunlight streamed through the windows of Finch Chapel during her audition, Elena knew Greensboro College felt like home. After earning the top music scholarship, she spent the next four years studying voice, piano, and history, graduating with a music-performance degree in 2002. Following commencement, she joined the GC work family as the switchboard operator.
In 2007, she became the Director of Advancement Services, supervising the alumni and donor database, providing prospect development & research, managing gift records and reporting, and facilitating donor recognition and stewardship.
As a fan of genealogy, Elena has enjoyed discovering the many GC alumni families. Her husband, Chris, his two brothers, and daughter, Alyssa, have also earned bachelor’s degrees from GC.
