February 2023 Pride Notes
GENERAL
- Barbara Reynolds Valentine ’57, recently moved to the Cypress Glenn retirement community. She reports that her reception there has been “almost like a rush week at GC when the Emerson and Irving societies were welcoming freshmen.” Many of her new acquaintances have strong ties to GC. One new friend, in particular, is Barbara’s backdoor neighbor, Mary Hannah Finch Taft, who is the granddaughter of GC Hannah Brown Finch Chapel namesake. Mary Hannah’s grandmother graduated from GFC in 1885 following her sister, Crissie Brown Clark Class of 1861, for whom a scholarship is named.
- Tony Falvino ’06, has joined Elon University as the Associate Head Men’s Soccer Coach.
- Tore Foster ’20, has accepted the position of Human Resources Coordinator with Rockingham County Schools.

- Gwen Maples-Lessig 1955, passed away on February 2, 2023.

- Jackie Cianfrani Mulvena ’07 MEd ’13, was selected Teacher of the Year at Oak Ridge Elementary School.
- Jovan Estrada ’13, has joined the women’s lacrosse coaching staff at Delaware State University (DSU) as an assistant coach for defense. Additionally, Javon is a special education coordinator at the Early College School at DSU, and a co-owner of Super Savage Training.

December 2022 Pride Notes
GENERAL
- Sissy Kocur Silver ’99, graduated from UNC-Greensboro in December 2022 with a Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science. After 18 years of teaching art, she started the program as the world went into lockdown in 2020 and completed the degree online. She now serves as the Media Specialist at Guilford Elementary in Greensboro.
- Devan Macheras Dawson ’17, began working as an Ergonomic Specialist at Premise Health.
- Destiney Allen ’19, is engaged to Austin Mangus and completed her master’s degree from Wake Forest University in Counseling.

- Cloe Torres Caldwell ’97, Recently moved with their family to Christiansburg, VA to support their spouse, Rebecca Caldwell in her position at VA Tech. Their children are attending Montgomery County Public Schools, and their son, Larson Caldwell, was recently named Student of the Month.

August 2022 Pride Notes
General
- Sally Logue Blizzard ’76, recently retired as a special education teacher in Millville Public Schools. She was also chair of NJEA’s Exceptional Children Committee for the past decade.
- Kenny Barnwell ’80, was recognized as the top pick for the East Region by the American Fruit Grower Magazine, which published its annual listing of Apple Growers of the Year, He’s a fifth-generation apple grower, and owner of Kenny Barnwell Orchards. He took over the family orchard in 1989 and provides wholesale apples to local markets, as well as Gerber for baby food and Peterson Farms, who make the apple slices for McDonald’s.
- Robert Wrenn ’92, began working at Ralph Lauren.
- GT Randall ’93, retired from Brunswick Community College on August 31, 2022, as the Senior Director of Workforce Development. He was promoted to Master Sergeant in the United States Army Reserve on June 1, 2022, and celebrated 31 years in the reserves on August 25, 2022.
- Alanna Edwards McClary ’01, is working as an English teacher for Fairfax Public Schools.
- Donna Allard Jackson ’03, and her husband have recently moved to The Villages, Florida. They had been living in Iowa, then at the suggestion of a high school friend who lives there, visited The Villages and decided to move. She says this first summer in Florida hasn’t been any hotter than what they were used to in Iowa and, previously, Greensboro (highs in the 90s), but she really looks forward to experiencing the first winter in Florida. Donna graduated from GC as an adult student and has wonderful memories of her time here. She was able to work while earning her degree which worked very well for her.
- Frances Humphreys Saxton ’06, is an Assistant Professor of Theatre and Artistic Director at Milligan University.
- Briony Lewis Aiken ’17, is working as a youth counselor for DPS.

July 2022 Pride Notes
GENERAL
- Eddie Huss ’79, currently serves as the Minister of Music at the Shandon United Methodist Church in Columbia, South Carolina, and as an ordained Deacon in the South Carolina Conference. As a pianist, he has performed concerts throughout the Carolinas with his duo piano partner, Annette Matthews. While at Greensboro College, (1975-1979), he had the unique opportunity to study piano with the brilliant pianist, David Pinnix. He also studied music with professors, Anne Woodward Lee, Harold Andrews, E.L. Williams, Don, and Jo Hansen. In 1975, He was awarded the Theodore Presser Music Scholarship at Greensboro College. He is grateful for his undergraduate education at Greensboro College and the wonderful friendships he made during his four years as a college student.
- Paula Webster Graham ’82, retired after 38 years as an electron microscopy technologist.
- Tonya Bennett James ’85, retired on January 1, 2021, after 32 1/2 years of teaching art. She taught in two different districts, starting in Lexington City and later moving to Davidson County, where she finished her career at North Davidson High School. She says “I loved teaching so much, but I am enjoying retirement!”
- Dr. Eric Pugh ’04, is working as the Principal of Chester Community Charter School in Chester, PA.
- Maurio Hines ’08, is currently doing Porgy and Bess with the Des Moines Metro Opera company. This is an opera that he has recently done with The Metropolitan Opera in NYC. He is scheduled to return to the Metropolitan Opera next year.
- Raheem Martin ’17, has been promoted to coordinator of student-athlete development for the University of Arkansas Razorback Men’s Basketball team after spending two years as a graduate assistant while pursuing a Master’s in Adult and Lifelong Learning.
- Lindsey Mead ’21, is a supervisor at Ripley’s Believe It or Not Orlando.
- Lauren Rodriguez ’21, is going into her second year of teaching 2nd grade!

- Mark Pollard ’66, was the commencement speaker for Greensboro College for the 2022 commencement ceremony with his message titled “Go For It!”, and received an honorary doctorate. He was joined by family and friends: wife, Carol, daughter, Miriam Cohen, granddaughter, Talia Cohen, son, Stephen Pollard, Kitty Harlow and Bill Bolin, Robyn and Bob Moorhead, Earleen Mulwee Barnes ’67 and Hal Barnes ’66, Bary Cain ’67, Gail Brower Huggins ’65, Candy Lambeth Kime ’69, and Bob and Joan Jones.
- Dr. Kevin Burroughs ’90, was named as one of the physicians for the Charlotte FC MLS team where he serves as a Venue Medical Director. He is the Co-Chief of Primary Care Sports Medicine for the Atrium Health Musculoskeletal Institute and the Director of the Cabarrus Sports Medicine Fellowship.
- Lenore Morales, Raeford, Ph.D. (Indiana Tech ’22), M.A. TESOL (GC ’12) successfully defended her dissertation and received the Ph.D. in Global Leadership from Indiana Tech on Monday, May 16, 2022. Title: Tweeting Global Leadership: Using Twitter for Organizational Values and Change (99+) Post | Feed | LinkedIn She also holds a B.A. in Sociology from UNC-Pembroke. She owns both an educational and organizational management consulting company and an English language teaching and learning company. Thank you Greensboro College!
- Tripp Honeycutt III ’16, has been hired as the new head football coach at South Davidson High School. He will also be teaching physical education.
- Hunter McMillion ’20, is working in accounts receivable for K . G. Johnson Inc.
- Kenzie Burns ’22, will be pursuing a doctorate in physical therapy at Northeastern University in Boston, MA.
- Cynthia Porter ’22, is working as a medical laboratory technician at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
