Patsy Stephenson Daniel ’52, and her husband, Charles Daniel Jr., Powell, TN, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in February of 2019.

Rev. Dr. Joseph C. Seymour Jr. ’69, Davidson, has recently published his latest book, which is a Christmas book that includes 8 first person monologues and Advent and Christmas poetry. It is entitled “Telling the Story: Eight Christmas monologues and Poetry for Advent and Christmas”. It is available at Amazon or at orders@wifpandstock.com.

Carl R. Shatley Jr ’92, Thomasville, was featured in a haunted history presentation at Piedmont Crossing on the Salem Witch Trials at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31st. To read the full description click here.

Jeremy R. Kinney ’94, Bristow, VA, has won the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics 2020 Gardner-Lasser Aerospace History Literature Award for his book, Reinventing the Propeller: Aeronautical Specialty and the Triumph of the Modern Airplane (Cambridge University Press, 2017). The award is for the best original contribution to the field of aeronautical or astronautical non-fiction literature published in the last five years dealing with the science, technology, and/or impact of aeronautics or astronautics on society. Jeremy is currently Chair of the Aeronautics Department at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.

Wilson Lester ’13, Greensboro, is the executive director of Piedmont Business Capital. He is on the boards of directors for the Nussbaum Center for Entrepreneurship, Reinvestment Partners and Greensboro Literacy Organization. Sylvia Hester Pakradooni ’59, Virginia Beach, Va., shared that she has completed a 4 1/2 month around-the-world ocean cruise, saying “This fantasic trip was a journey of a lifetime.”

Dr. Jann Haynes Gilmore ’68, Alexandria, Va., gave a symposium book talk in Steamboat, Colo., on Jun 29 at the meeting of the American Women Artists organization. Gilmore spoke on the subject of her biography of Olive Rush 1873-1966. The AWA promotes 25 museum art exhibitions by contemporary women artists over 25 years. The Steamboat Art Museum hosted the seventh AWA exhibition devoted to this goal.

The Rev. Stephanie Paulsell ’85, the Susan Shallcross Swartz Professor of the Practice of Christian Studies at Harvard Divinity School, has been named interim Pusey Minister of Harvard’s nondenominational Memorial Church, Harvard reports. (8/20/2019).  Click here for the full article.

Dr. Timothy P. Sarah Anderson Johnson 1978, Greensboro, retired from elementary music teaching in Guilford County Schools on March 1.
Dr. Patricia Raube Keller 1998, Cincinatti, OH, received a Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching and Student-Faculty Relations from the University of Cincinnati. She says, “Very lucky to be able to do what I love, and work with such awesome colleagues in the University of Cincinnati Sport Administration program”.
Aaron J. Weibe 2008, relocated to Summerfield, North Carolina last year after serving 10 years in the United States Air Force and completing a three-year tour in Tokyo, Japan with Air Force Public Affairs and the United States Air Force Band of the Pacific, where he performed hundreds of concerts as a guitarist for audiences across Japan, Australia, Vietnam, Singapore, and Korea. During this that time, he also completed a Master of Arts in Communication from Johns Hopkins University with concentrations in Digital Communications and Public & Media Relations, and is currently in his final semester of his second undergraduate degree in Spanish at Arizona State University. Aaron now leads communication and engagement efforts for a non-profit serving the Cooperative Extension System across the nation.

Barbara B. Myers 1968, Gastonia, recently received the United Methodist Women Special Recognition of Service Award. This award acknowledges her commitment to the Methodist Church and her community through service on the Community Foundation and support for the Community Backpack Program. Barbara has also been an integral leader of Camp Sunshine and supporter of the Meals for Boys and Girls Club, all community outreach programs of the First United Methodist Church of Gastonia.
Pell Rouse Foster 1969, Rocky Mount, is taking oil painting classes and enjoying her new experiences. She frequently volunteers for the local Boys and Girls Club in their area teaching etiquette and music. She also volunteers at Rocky Mount Academy where she is a GrandFriend to Chinese students who come there to study for 1/2 a year. She and her husband, Sonny, who is President of Smithson, Inc. have established an Engineering Scholarship in their name at Nash Community College, where Sonny is a trustee. They both enjoy traveling and recently enjoyed 3 days as guests of Trinchero Winery in St. Helena, CA. Pell is looking forward to her 50th Reunion at GC.

Cindy Loomis Freeman 1971, Williamsburg, VA, retired as director of the Early Childhood Music School in Williamsburg, Virginia and has launched a second career as a writer. She has published two award-winning short stories and three novels with High Tide Publications: UNREVEALED, THE DARK ROOM, and I WANT TO GO HOME.
Deborah Coan Lamm 1973, Matthews, was honored by Charlotte Latin School in October. The school’s on-campus team-challenge course Lamm Hawks Quest is named after Debbie for her vision and promotion of experiential learning to foster collaboration, team building, and active problem solving. Lamm was an administrator at Latin from 1992-2017.
Shelley Jarrad Lombardo 1997, Maryland, Chief Operating Officer of Evergreen Advisors, an investment bank and corporate advisory firm, has been elected to the board of the Cyber Association of Maryland (CAMI). CAMI was established in 2015 to generate sales and jobs through Maryland’s cybersecurity industry. CAMI is Maryland’s only organization dedicated 100% to the growth of Maryland’s cybersecurity industry.

Kay Vass Darling 1980, Richmond, Va., will be a featured artist at Union Presbyterian Seminary’s free public exhibit, titled “Icons Reimagined,” which began Nov. 1, 2018, at William Smith Morton Library, 3406 Chamberlayne Ave., Richmond, VA 23227. The exhibit will feature oil paintings and collage/mixed-media works by local artist Kay Vass Darling along with books from Morton Library’s collection pertaining to icons, worship, and iconography. The exhibit will be in place through mid-January 2019 and there will be a free gallery talk by the artist at 3 p.m. Nov. 12.

Anne Jones Hurd 1981, Greensboro, has been elected vice chair of the Greensboro War Memorial Commission.

Deborah Coan Lamm 1973, Matthews, retired in July 2017 from Charlotte Latin School where she has been the Head of Middle School since 1992. She has enjoyed her 39-year career as an English teacher, reading specialist, and principal. She currently serves as a consultant on special projects at Latin where she chaired the design team for the new Latin Fellows Program, a one-year apprenticeship for recent college graduates who are interested in teaching.
