Department of Natural Sciences

We strive to help all students describe, understand, and ask questions about the natural world.

Natural science students experience hands-on learning through a lab-intensive curriculum, allowing students to gain experimental, analytical, and critical-thinking skills to prepare them for industry-related careers, graduate school, or professions in science education. Our small, student-to-faculty ratio provides students with ample one-on-one interaction with dedicated faculty members and offers individualized support for learning. Our students are introduced to and also have the opportunity to discuss relevant technology, societal advancements, and bioethical issues.

Majors and Minors

  • Biology Major

The biology major is designed for students interested in life science careers, including medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, biological research, field biology, life science education, scientific writing, sales and marketing (of pharmaceuticals, laboratory equipment, etc.), and more. Students majoring in biology will select one of three concentrations: Biomedical Sciences, Wildlife Conservation, or Integrative Biology.

Meet Sharon Dei-Tumi , Class of 2015.

Learn about how she used the knowledge and skills from her time at Greensboro College to pursue a career in medicine. Sharon was a Biology major and double minored in Chemistry and Humanities.

“One of the things I also really liked about Greensboro College is the emphasis on what are you going to do when you leave here, and for me, what that looked like was…I was given the opportunity to do an internship…and through this internship, I ended up getting a job after college. I ended up finding out about public health, which I ended up doing as my master’s, and then through that, I found out about podiatry, and now I’m a podiatry student.” – Dei-Tumi
