Greensboro College Student Newspaper, Literary Magazine Each Win Prize in State Media Competition

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College’s student newspaper, The Collegian, and its literary magazine, The Lyre, each won an award at the recent North Carolina College Media Conference.

The paper received an honorable mention in opinion writing for Timothy Crowell’s column, “Why I Changed My Mind About Same-Sex Marriage,” which was published in the Feb. 15, 2017, edition. Crowell is a sophomore psychology and English major from Pinnacle, N.C.

The magazine took second place in two-page spreads for “Postcard from Poland, 1939,” and “City Frozen in Time,” by Andrew Gainey, a senior music major from Greensboro, and Crystal Rothrock, a junior theatre major from Winston-Salem, N.C.

The spread was published in the magazine’s 2017-2018 edition.
