Greensboro College Student’s Paper Wins Second Prize at Honors Symposium

GREENSBORO, N.C. – A Greensboro College student’s paper won second prize at the recent 18th Annual Undergraduate Honors Symposium at UNC-Greensboro.

Alla Ahmed Alaghbri, a junior history and religion major from High Point, N.C., won for his paper, “The Definition of Reason in the Asha’ri School of Islamic Theology: Implications and Applications.”

Alaghbri was among seven Greensboro College students, the most ever, to have papers accepted for the symposium, sponsored annually by UNC-Greensboro’s Lloyd International Honors College. The prizes are dedicated to the encouragement of high-quality academic writing.

Alaghbri is a student in Greensboro College’s George Center for Honors Studies. The center is a program designed for students who have a high level of intellectual ability and motivation. It stresses interdisciplinary teaching, learning, and research in both the traditional liberal arts and professional programs.

The Honors Program emphasizes close interaction with faculty through interdisciplinary and team-taught honors seminars and an in-depth senior project or thesis. For more information, contact program director Neill Clegg at 336-272-7102, ext. 5288, or
