Greensboro College Names Allison Palmadessa ’03 Director of Supplemental Instruction

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College has named Allison Palmadessa ’03, the college’s Moore Associate Professor of History, its director of supplemental instruction.

In that role, she will be overseeing a program in which upper-level students will be engaged in assisting in classes.

The program, which she piloted, was a key part of the five-year, $1.93 million Title III grant from the U.S. Department of Education that the college was awarded in October 2018 to enhance its degree-completion support program.

The college’s degree-completion program goal is to increase rates of persistence and graduation among traditional undergraduate students, with particular focus on low-income, first-generation students.

The competitive grant is believed to be the largest federal grant the college ever has received. Title III grants are intended to help colleges and universities serve low-income students.

Palmadessa is the author of “American National Identity, Policy Paradigms, and Higher Education: A History of the Relationship between Higher Education and the United States, 1862-2015” (2017) and the forthcoming book “Higher Education Divided: National Expectations and the Bifurcation of Purpose and National Identity, 1946-2016,” as well as numerous scholarly journal articles.

She holds a B.A. from Greensboro College and M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She joined the faculty full-time in 2014 after having been a visiting faculty member since 2012.
