Greensboro College Accessibility Director Will Present Paper at World Future Forum in April

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College’s director of academic accessibility, Georgieann Bogdan, will present a paper in April at World Future Forum in Chicago.

Bogdan’s paper is titled, “Universal Design for Learning: Conquering Learning Challenges.” It describes how Greensboro College, almost uniquely within higher education committed to fully embracing UDL, uses UDL as a framework for successful academic and student development at a small, private, Methodist-affiliated, liberal arts college.

Since embarking almost five years ago on becoming a UDL institution as one of the three pillars in its 2015-2020 strategic plan, Greensboro has initiated its transformation to an institution that values and facilitates UDL across its curriculum and providing a learning environment for all students.

Bogdan argues that Greensboro College’s experience can be used as a model for launching a UDL initiative at a small, private, liberal-arts college.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a research-based set of principles intended to guide the design of learning environments that are accessible and effective for all. Now the leading framework in an international reform movement, UDL informs all educational research and development, capacity building, and professional learning.

UDL is based on cognitive neuroscience and is intended to guide the development of flexible learning environments that can accommodate individual learning differences.

World Future Forum is an international conference that provides a platform for research and discussions of excellence in high school and the transition into higher education and career paths.

Held this year in Chicago, World Future Forum will bring together a diverse group of secondary and post-secondary educators, administrators, academics, and other professionals to enrich their knowledge of preparing students for today’s job market and workforce.

Bogdan holds a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and an M.A. from Wake Forest University. She joined the college staff in 2016.
