Sean Saari is a Lighting and Scenic Design Associate Professor for the Greensboro College’s Theatre Department since Fall 2016. He received his M.FA. in Lighting and Scenic Design from the University of Georgia Athens in 2015, and his B.A. from Greensboro College in 2012. Sean was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Lighting and Scenic Design, and Scenic Painting for Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania 2015-2016.

Sean has Designed a number of the productions for the Greensboro College Theatre Department the past 5 years in addition to mentoring student designers, technicians, and stage managers, while also building, painting and maintaining equipment for the Campus production spaces. Some courses recently taught include Lighting Design 1 & 2, Computer Drafting, Stagecraft, Scene Painting, Intro to Theatre, Theatre History, and Stage Management 1, alongside Production labs each semester.

Sean has worked on more than 70 theatrical and opera productions; 41 Lighting Designs, and 18 Scenic Designs, Assistant Technical Director for 12, Technical Director for several, and as a Carpenter/Master Carpenter and Shop Supervisor for every show in our Theatre seasons.

Sean is a USITT-SE Lighting Design Exposition award winner for his productions of “Anna in the Tropics” and “The Rabbit Hole” and was a nominee to the KC-ACTF Regional Festival for his lighting design for “Little Shop of Horrors.”

He has recently presented scenic painting workshops at the USITT-SE Master Classes in 2019 at UNCG, 2018 at Coastal Carolina University and presented with Prof. John Saari at the Staten Island Stages in May 2019 for Art Directors and recent USA 829 and IATSE members and apprentice program participants.

He is once again looking forward to continuing serving both the College and Theatre Department.

Joshua currently studies astrodynamics at Virginia Tech University and is an Engineering Mechanics Ph.D. Candidate.
