Over the weekend of November 4, Greensboro College student, Xypher Pino, was presented with the Community Impact Student Award by NC Campus Engagement for his outstanding commitment and contribution to civic and community engagement. Xypher was selected as the award winner by Greensboro College administration after careful consideration of the students who made a lasting impact on the Greensboro College campus. He was honored for his efforts and achievements at the NC Campus Engagement biennial CSNAP Student Conference.

Since 2006, the Community Impact Student Award (CISA) recognizes an outstanding, full-time undergraduate student service leader from each NC Campus Engagement member campus. Award winners are selected by campus leaders and honored during the biennial CSNAP Student Conference. This year, CSNAP was held at NC State University with the theme, “Rising Together: Students Depolarizing North Carolina.”

Xypher was selected for the Greensboro College CISA for his exceptional dedication and profound impact on campus through his fervent commitment to addressing food insecurity. Xypher’s tireless efforts in raising awareness and driving initiatives for the campus food pantry have significantly enriched the student community.

Xypher’s approach to addressing food insecurity has been multifaceted, including establishing a social media presence for the Greensboro College Collegiate Hunger Challenge team, managing educational and community engagement events on campus to inform students about food insecurity, and organizing numerous food drives on campus, ensuring a sustained supply for the campus pantry.

Additionally, Xypher has led discussions on campus about the NC Collegiate Hunger Challenge and the significance of the campus food pantry, instigating a heightened awareness of the challenges of food insecurity among students.

Xypher’s collaborative spirit and proactive engagement with his roles as the Food Drive Coordinator for the Honors Program, NC Campus Hunger Ambassador, and Village 401 Volunteer demonstrate his diverse and impactful contributions to community service initiatives. His work ethic and dedication to the campus community have served as an inspiration for fellow students.

Xypher graciously accepted the Community Impact Student Award as the Greensboro College winner, among 14 other students representing colleges and universities across North Carolina.

“I loved the GC Honors program and Greensboro College. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.”
