John Deere Selects Greensboro College Campus to Shoot Videos Promoting New Equipment

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College has long been known for its beautiful campus. That campus will get a wider audience as tractor and lawn-equipment maker John Deere films promotional videos on campus in July.

The company will shoot video in early July of several new pieces of equipment – so new that they might not go on sale until sometime in 2020. No photos of the new equipment can be released until the equipment goes on sale.

John Deere producer Scott Zwygart, who visited the campus earlier today and picked it on the spot, said it had everything John Deere was looking for.

“We were looking for green grass and a college setting,” he said. “It’s something we’re missing in our advertising, that brick-campus look.”

The campus’s small size also worked to GC’s advantage, Zwygart said, because “we didn’t want to have to wrangle too many people.”

John Deere and its production company will bring talent to take part in the shoot, but employees of SSC Serv, the college’s maintenance/housekeeping partner, might end up taking part as well, Zwygart said. SSC Serv has a national contract with John Deere.

Zwygart credited the N.C. Film Office for suggesting Greensboro College as one of several possible locations for the shoot.

Anne Hurd ’81, vice president chief advancement officer, welcomed John Deere to the campus.

“We all know what a beautiful campus we have here, thanks to our director of facilities, Justin Liszka, and his SSC crew,” she said. “We’re delighted that more people will get to see just how beautiful our campus looks.”

“I loved the GC Honors program and Greensboro College. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.”
