Greensboro College Women’s Basketball Players, Coach earn Top Honors from Conference

The Greensboro College Women’s Basketball team received several individual and team conference honors from the USA South Athletic Conference for its 2022-23 season, including Audrey Jennings being named Player of the Year, Ta’Keria Legette being named Defensive Player of the Year, and head coach, Heather Macy, being named Coach of the Year.

Jennings, a sophomore guard from Elkin, North Carolina, becomes the fifth Greensboro College women’s basketball player to be named USA South Player of the Year, and the first since the 2012-13 season. Jennings scored the most points in the USA South during the regular season with 433, including a league-best 23.8 points per 40 minutes played. Additionally, Jennings led the USA South in free-throw shooting, making 119 at an 86.2% clip during the regular season.

Legette, a senior guard from Latta, South Carolina, becomes the first Greensboro College women’s basketball player to be named the USA South’s Defensive Player of the Year. Legette led both the USA South in total steals (96) and steals per game (3.8), and she also finished within the top ten of all Division III basketball in those categories. Additionally, Legette averaged 14.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game this season.

Macy, in her third year as Greensboro College’s head coach, earns her first USA South Coach of the Year honor. The Greensboro College Pride, selected by the USA South coaches in the preseason to win the conference’s regular season title, had an 18-0 regular season record against the USA South, tied for the program record in a single season, and the USA South’s first undefeated conference record since Christopher Newport University also went 18-0 during the 2009-10 regular season. It is the 11th regular season title earned by the Greensboro College Women’s Basketball Program.

Additionally, Jennings and Legette were named to the USA South’s All-Conference First Team, and Greenwood, South Carolina natives, Lauren Livingston and Quadijah Moore, were selected as members of the USA South’s Second Team and Honorable Mentions, respectively. Aliyah Whiteside, a Spindale, NC native, was named to the conference’s All-Sportsmanship Team.

Greensboro College next hosts Southern Virginia University in the USA South’s Seminfinals on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Hanes Gym on Greensboro College’s campus. If the Pride advance, they will host the winner of Brevard and N.C. Wesylan in the conference’s championship game on Saturday, February 25.

“I loved the GC Honors program and Greensboro College. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.”
