Greensboro College Theatre Presents “Tonin’,” Based on Music of the Manhattan Transfer, April 28-30 (4/12/2017)
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College Theatre presents “Tonin’,” a dance production based on the music of the Manhattan Transfer, Friday-Sunday, April 28-30, in the Gail Brower Huggins Performance Center in Odell Building on campus.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, April 28-29, and 2 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, April 29-30. Tickets are $10 adults; $8 seniors and non-Greensboro College students, and may be reserved by calling 336-272-7102, ext. 5242, or emailing tickets@greensboro.edu.
The production was conceived and is directed and choreographed by Ashley Hyers, assistant professor of theatre and dance, and Perry Morgan-Hall, assistant professor of theatre and director of the department’s musical-theatre concentration.
In the genre of the Broadway musicals “Come Fly Away” and “Movin’ Out,” created by Twyla Tharpe, this original production is a musical dance and movement piece using the music of the Grammy Award-winning group The Manhattan Transfer, which collaborates with such musical guests as BB King, Bette Midler, James Taylor, Chaka Kahn, Phil Collins, Smokey Robinson, and Frankie Valli.
Greensboro College’s Department of Theatre seeks to provide a strong foundation in theatre while allowing the student to emphasize in a particular area such as directing, acting, or arts administration.
The coursework is integrated with the production work to provide a better understanding of the many facets of the theatre. Required participation on stage or backstage on all theatre productions allows the techniques and theories that are examined in the classroom and the laboratory to be tested in a performance setting.
