Greensboro College Student’s Paper Wins Award at Regional History Conference
GREENSBORO, N.C. – A Greensboro College student’s paper on Islam won a best-paper award at a regional history conference April 14.
Alla Alaghbri, a junior history and religion major from High Point, N.C., won best paper in the session “Intellectual and Religious History of the Near East and Islamic World” at the 2018 Phi Alpha Theta Carolinas Regional History Conference at Queens University in Charlotte.
Alaghbri’s paper, “The Origins and Development of Kalam Between the 8th and 12th Centuries,” is the second prize-winning paper he has submitted to an academic conference this year. His paper “The Definition of Reason in the Asha’ri School of Islamic Theology: Implications and Applications” took second prize at the recent 18th Annual Undergraduate Honors Symposium at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Alaghbri is a student in Greensboro College’s George Center for Honors Studies. The center is a program designed for students who have a high level of intellectual ability and motivation. It stresses interdisciplinary teaching, learning, and research in both the traditional liberal arts and professional programs.
