Greensboro College Professor Speaks on Restorative Justice at Symposium (4/25/2017)

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Benjamin Wall, assistant professor of religion and ethics at Greensboro College, will be the keynote speaker today at the Pen Symposium on Restorative Justice in Houston.

Wall and the symposium, a gathering of high-school students and teachers at Houston’s Summer Creek High School, will examine such questions as:

  • How should societies respond to wrongdoing?
  • When a crime occurs or an injustice is done, what needs to happen?
  • What does Justice require?
  • Who are the most powerful voices of restorative justice?
  • How can we learn from them, and add our own voices to the conversation in meaningful ways?

Students will compose essays and presentations, with the top 10 essayists and presenters being chosen to help lead a restorative-justice initiative at the school.

Wall is the author of the 2016 book “Welcome as a Way of Life: A Practical Theology of Jean Vanier,” an examination of theology and disability.

He holds a B.A. from Southeastern College, M.A. and Th.M. from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Ph.D. from the University of Aberdeen. He joined the Greensboro College faculty in 2015.

“I loved the GC Honors program and Greensboro College. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.”
