Greensboro College Graduate Student Wins Outstanding-Paper Award at Conference

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College student Jaime Paredes received the Outstanding Paper Presentation award at the recent TESOL and Applied Linguistics Graduate Student Conference in Greenville, N.C.

Paredes, of Fayetteville, N.C., won for his paper titled, “A Critical Model for Teaching a Second Language.”

Paredes, a student in the college’s M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program, was among about 20 Greensboro College students and three faculty members who attended the conference. Of those 20, 11 presented papers, workshops or posters.

The conference is organized by students and faculty at Greensboro College and East Carolina University to provide a “serious but relaxed” for graduate students and professionals in linguistics to present their work, receive feedback, and network. Greensboro College hosted the event in 2017 and will again on Feb. 9, 2019.

An M.A. in TESOL from Greensboro College qualifies graduates to apply for full-time teaching in community colleges, private language academies, K-12 schools, university-based intensive English programs, and nonprofit service organizations.
