Greensboro College Announces New Student Center with Coffee Shop

March 7, 2018

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College will be opening a new student center on campus, including a coffee shop/convenience store, this fall.

The facility will be located in what is now the Campbell Athletic Center. A similar facility was located there for decades, until 2003, when the college acquired what is now the Reynolds Center two blocks from its main campus.

“We’re pleased about having a student center back on our main campus again,” President Lawrence D. Czarda, Ph.D., said.

The new facility is made possible by a $1 million investment by Chartwells, the college’s new food-service partner, along with additional donor gifts and a $1 million renovation of Hanes Gymnasium the college completed in 2017. The work is expected to be complete by mid- to late August.

Athletic training facilities currently located in Campbell will be moving to Hanes Gymnasium as part of the Chartwells investment. Student Activities, the chaplain’s office and the college’s Village 401 service program will be moving from the Reynolds Center to Campbell.

Greensboro College provides a liberal arts education grounded in the traditions of the United Methodist Church and fosters the intellectual, social, and, spiritual development of all students while supporting their individual needs.

Founded in 1838 and located in downtown Greensboro, the college enrolls about 1,000 students from 29 states and territories, the District of Columbia, and seven foreign countries in its undergraduate liberal-arts program and four master’s degree programs. In addition to rigorous academics and a well-supported Honors program, the school features an 18-sport NCAA Division III athletic program and dozens of service and recreational opportunities.

“I loved the GC Honors program and Greensboro College. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.”
