Greensboro College Will Host Guest Lecturer on Retaining College Students

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College’s school of Social Sciences and Education will be hosting Dr. Hall “Skip” Beck as a guest lecturer, 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, in 109 Proctor Hall West.

His lecture is titled “Retention Is Everyone’s Problem and What You Can Do About It.

The event is free and open to the public. Free parking is available behind the college’s Admissions Welcome Center at West Market Street and College Place.

Beck, a professor emeritus at Appalachian State University, taught there from 1984 to 2017. Beck’s research interests have ranged from assessing the memory of one‑celled organisms to testing weapons systems for the U.S. Army, but throughout his career he has maintained an active research program examining factors contributing to the well‑being and success of college students.

One of many achievements during his research is his co-development of the College Persistence Questionnaire (CPQ). Beck is currently a nationally recognized expert in retention and care for college students.
