Greensboro College Will Hold Annual Spring Stream Walk April 26

UPDATE: Because of expected rainy weather, the Stream Walk has been postponed until 2-4 p.m. Monday, April 29.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College community will hold its 17th annual Spring Stream Walk, 3-5 p.m. Friday, April 26, to clean the banks of the creek that flows along the campus’s eastern edge and assess the health of the stream.

Greensboro College “adopted” College Branch, as the stream is known, in 2003 in cooperation with the city of Greensboro’s Water Resources Department.

Each spring, the college community, under the direction of Calhoun Bond, professor of biology, walk the stream along the college’s property, cleaning up trash and recording the general condition of the water, stream bed and banks.

Participants will gather at 3 p.m. at the Market Street end of the parking lot behind Jones Library on campus. Participants’ gloves and trash bags are being provided by the city of Greensboro’s Water Resources Department. Participants should wear long pants and shoes that can get wet and/or dirty – for safety, no open-toed sandals or flip-flops.

The project is sponsored by the college’s Department of Natural Sciences and Beta Beta Beta, the national honor society in biology. It is expected to be completed by 5 p.m.

“I loved the GC Honors program and Greensboro College. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.”
