Greensboro College Professor Teresa Walker Appointed to Endowed Chair
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Teresa Walker, assistant professor and chair of the Department of Accounting at Greensboro College, has been appointed to the Fred L. Proctor Sr. Professorship.
“Prof. Walker has been a key contributor to Greensboro College,” her citation reads. “She is a highly effective teacher as indicated by the countless educational and career accomplishments of her accounting students. Prof. Walker has routinely engaged her students in community service such as tax preparation activities for people who are in need of such guidance. She and her students have even been awarded commendations by the IRS for their service.
“Awarding the Fred L. Proctor Sr., Professorship Chair to Prof. Walker is a recognition of her significant and inspirational contributions to our students, the College, and the community.”
Walker formally received her citation in a brief ceremony attended by Paul Leslie, senior vice president and chief academic officer; William K. MacReynolds, dean of the School of Business, and Rich Mayes, dean of the faculty.
Fred L. Proctor Sr. endowed a professorship to honor a full-time faculty member appointed to the School of Business who has demonstrated significant contributions to business and the college community.
The appointment is made by the president of the college upon recommendation from the Academic Deans’ Council. It continues as long as the recipient is a full-time member of the faculty.
Previous honorees include:

- 2007-2011: Cynthia Hanson
- 2012: Frederick Oerther III
- 2013-2014: Michael A. Dutch
Walker joined the faculty in 2013. Previously she had taught at Piedmont Community College, Elon University, N.C. A&T State University, and Strayer University.
She also had worked for an accounting firm as well as having been a sole-practitioner CPA, a tax expert for the software firm Intuit, and a revenue field auditor for the N.C. Department of Revenue.
She holds a B.A. in accounting from N.C. State University and an M.S. in accounting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
