Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach

Part-Time 12 months
JOB SUMMARY:
Greensboro College Men’s Basketball is searching for a dedicated Assistant Coach/Head JV Coach. The individual will assist in all aspects of coaching, including practice planning, recruiting, scouting, skill development, fundraising, and everything the coaching profession entails. Greensboro College is located in Greensboro, NC and competes in the USA South Athletic Conference.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with on-court coaching – 40%
  • Sets up for practices.
  • Runs drills.
  • Directs team warm-up and stretching.
  • Instructs and motivates players.
Recruit student athletes – 20%
  • Attends high school games.
  • Evaluates players.
  • Communicates with coaches and players.
  • Full responsibility for recruitment and retention of the JV roster.
Advises and monitors the academic progress of student athletes – 20%
  • Ensures player progress toward degree completion.
  • Provides advice and support to students.
  • Coordinates community service opportunities for student-athletes.
Assists in the development of game and practice schedules – 10%
  • Schedules gym time and creates practice schedules.
  • Assists in coordinating game schedules.
Assists in coordinating team travel – 5%
  • Prepares expense reports and travel authorizations.
  • Coordinates meals and hotels.
Performs related duties – 5%
  • Downloads game and practice recordings for breakdown.
  • Assists in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the basketball program.
  • Game and practice equipment management
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Undergraduate degree required.
  • NCAA Collegiate recruiting preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Previous collegiate playing and/or coaching experience preferred.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This position will be responsible for building a JV program in partnership with the Head Men’s Basketball Coach and Director of Athletics.

Dr. Josh Fitzgerald earned his master's from Virginia Tech University (studied astrodynamics) as well as earning an Engineering Mechanics Ph.D. He joined the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX as an Advanced Mission Design Engineer, optimizing trajectories for the Artemis II and III missions to return humans to the moon.
