Retiring Professor Randy Hunt Granted Emeritus Status During Commencement

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Randy R. Hunt, a professor of exercise and sport studies and chair of Greensboro College’s Department of Kinesiology, was granted emeritus status today during the college’s Commencement ceremony.

Hunt, who is retiring, was cited for his 43 years of distinguished teaching, 28 of them at Greensboro College, where he has been a master teacher, administrator, coach, and student advisor.

He was instrumental in creating the degree programs in exercise and sport studies, health and physical education, and health sciences. He designed and implemented a popular health fitness after-school program for Guilford County elementary-school children called, “Loco Nuts,” and has placed and supervised hundreds of students in internships.

Hunt holds a B.A. from Glenville State College and M.S. and Ed.D. from West Virginia University. He joined the Greensboro College faculty in 1991.

Emeritus/emerita status may be awarded to a Greensboro College faculty member who has limited or terminated his/her responsibilities as a faculty member for reasons such as retirement after 10 or more years of distinguished service to the college.

The Dean of the Faculty presents candidates for this status to the president, who in turn submits his recommendations to the Board of Trustees, which makes the final decision on this honor.

Greensboro College provides a liberal arts education grounded in the traditions of the United Methodist Church and fosters the intellectual, social, and, spiritual development of all students while supporting their individual needs.

Founded in 1838 and located in downtown Greensboro, the college enrolls about 1,000 students from 29 states and territories, the District of Columbia, and seven foreign countries in its undergraduate liberal-arts program and four master’s degree programs. In addition to rigorous academics and a well-supported Honors program, the school features an 18-sport NCAA Division III athletic program and dozens of service and recreational opportunities.

“I loved the GC Honors program and Greensboro College. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.”
