GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College has named Jaime Alvaro Paredes Paez its Distinguished Graduating Graduate Student.

The award, established in 2014, is presented annually at Commencement to a graduating graduate student who has excelled in all areas of graduate studies at Greensboro College and contributes to the life of the program, has expanded his/her own knowledge and expertise through graduate research and collaboration, and consistently represents the college’s graduate programs in a high-quality manner.

Paredes Paez, of Fayetteville, N.C., received his M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages today, having amassed a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.

The faculty member who nominated Paredes Paez wrote, “The level of detail he provided set his thesis project apart from that of his peers and ensured that it would be utilized by professionals in our field. Further testament to the utility and innovation of Jaime’s research is the fact that he attended the 2018 TESOL/Applied Linguistics Graduate Students conference, presented his thesis research, and was awarded the top recognition for Outstanding Research Award.”

“I loved the GC Honors program and Greensboro College. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.”
