Our Department of Music is committed to developing the musical knowledge, appreciation, talents, skills and teaching abilities of its students.
Compared to larger, more competitive schools, music students at Greensboro College have more opportunities and experience performing in musicals, participating in operas, teaching music and working one-on-one with professional musicians. With a reputable, well-rounded and in-depth degree program, music students graduate Greensboro College as experts in their craft and can pursue their passions as professional musicians or music teachers.
Auditions for entrance into the Music Department and music scholarship auditions occur on most Saturdays other than holiday weekends beginning at 1:00 pm. Auditions are held in Huggins Performance Center and Finch Chapel. Students interested in auditioning must contact Cathy Jansen, Fine Arts Administrative Assistant at 336-272-7102, ext. 242 to schedule an audition date and time.
Students are to prepare and perform two pieces of contrasting styles and another piece that is a favorite. Students may have their own accompanist or request an accompanist when scheduling the audition.
Students in the major receive a well-rounded music theory and performance foundation while honing their chosen music concentration. All incoming majors are required to (1) audition, (2) be tested in ear training and sight singing, (3) sight read, and (4) be interviewed by members of the Music Department.
Students in the major earn their teaching licensure, state certifications required by K-12 schools. With a 100% job placement rate, our Bachelor of Music Education graduates are proven to succeed in a competitive job market.
Learn MoreStudents receive foundational understanding of musical knowledge, appreciation and talents. Minors require 20 credits to complete.
