The GCC is located on the garden level of the James Addison Jones Library, and emphasizes accessibility and universal design for learning. The main entrance is through the garden patio between Proctor Hall and the library. You can also enter through the library and go down the stairs to get to the GCC.


Editing Software

The GCC has PC and Mac computers licensed to use the full Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, which is the industry standard. The suite includes Premiere, Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, Audition, Publisher, InDesign, and many other programs. Adobe features a robust set of tutorials for software on its website

Complete your post-processing work in the studios or on computers outside the studios. You can easily save your work to the cloud using the institution’s G-Suite. 


GCC Fellows Program

Students are encouraged to apply for our competitive fellowship program, the GCC Fellows. The Fellows program offers selected students a hands-on experience that varies based on individual interests and needs. In all cases, the GCC Fellows focus on taking their media and communication skills to the next level. 

Fellows are encouraged to add their fellowship to their resumes and develop their “elevator” pitch about the program, providing unique talking points for job interviews.


Collaborative Spaces

The GCC features a video wall in our lobby that can be used for competitive gaming and esports, sports replays, news channel comparisons, and other purposes. The GCC also has a cozy lounge area to get work done or relax, a Power Tower portable mobile charging unit, a Luxor charging station for multiple mobile devices (with a self-programmable locking door), cafe-style tables, a kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave, and other spaces designed for individual and group projects. Whiteboards are also located throughout the GCC.

CONSULTING SERVICES 

Work with professional consultants with advanced degrees in their fields to plan, create, edit and refine writing, speaking, and media projects.

PODCASTING AND VIDEO STUDIOS

Take your media work to the next level using our state-of-the-art podcasting studio or video studio.

The podcasting studio is equipped with the following: 

  • Rodecaster Pro audio console attached to four Rode dynamic microphones. Our setup makes it easy to create a podcast with up to four people, with each guest having a separate microphone and headphones. With an additional cable, you can make call-in guests part of your podcasting show through a mobile device. 
  • PCs connected to the Rodecaster so that post-processing can be done in-studio.
  • USB-based Blue Yeti microphone, which is renowned for its versatility and adjustable polar patterns.
  • Rode Procaster dynamic microphone that offers deep, rich sound.
  • AT 2035 Audio-Technica condenser microphone, which has an extended pick-up range.
  • Audio-Technica directional microphone.
  • For field recording in other locations, lav microphones and a Zoom H-5 are available for check out. 

The video studio makes it a snap to record video interviews, take headshots for professional portfolios, and borrow equipment for field recording in other locations. Equipment available for student use includes: 

  • Studio lights 
  • Muslin backdrops or optional greenscreen. 
  • Canon XA 11 video camera 
  • DSLR cameras 
  • Tripods
  • Portable hard drives and SD cards  
  • 2 Macs  

WORKSHOPS AND EVENTS

Come to a poetry reading, participate in a karaoke event, watch March Madness games, level up your career skills, or focus on social media writing at a GCC workshop or event. Each semester, the GCC hosts various events to appeal to your interests, helping you to succeed in classes and learn new skills.
