Greensboro College Colloquium: “Tassels without Barriers”

September 27 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 2019-2020 Greensboro College Colloquium series opens with a presentation on academic accessibility by the 2019-2020 Ms. Wheelchair USA, Brittany Hawley.

The event, at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 (Homecoming weekend), in the Sternberger Center in James Addison Jones Library, is free and open to the public. Free parking is available behind the Admissions Welcome Center at West Market Street and College Place.

Hawley, from Elm City, N.C., is touring the country with her service dog, Griffin, promoting “Tassles Without Barriers,” an effort to get schools and colleges to adopt Universal Design for Learning. UDL adapts curricula and learning environments to students’ individual learning needs. It is based on more than 30 years of learning research in such fields as cognitive neuroscience. Greensboro College began adopting UDL about five years ago.
