Concert: Bump City East Band (Tower of Power Tribute Band)

The Bump City East Band, a Tower of Power tribute band composed of Greensboro-area professional musicians, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, in the Gail Brower Huggins Performance Center in Odell Memorial Building on the Greensboro College campus. Tickets are $5 at the door.

The band, which features beach-music star Craig Woolard on lead vocals and also includes Greensboro College band director Benjy Springs as trumpeter, vocalist and band leader, performs works originally composed by Tower of Power. The latter group, a rhythm-and-blues band and horn section, was formed in Oakland, Calif., and has recorded and performed almost continuously since 1968.
