Biology and Chemistry
The Natural Science faculty is committed to helping students understand humanity’s quest for patterns and structures that govern or explain how the natural world works. Our courses help all students to analyze scientific information critically and to understand the natural world in a scientific fashion. Our major programs in biology and chemistry are designed to prepare students for 1) careers in industry (such as biotechnology), 2) entrance into graduate and professional training programs in science (such as medical school), or 3) careers in science education.

Biology/Allied Health Combined Degrees
Greensboro College offers the B.S. degree to students who complete the liberal arts academic portion of the degree requirements at Greensboro College and allied health clinical training and certification elsewhere. Our Combined Degrees focus on Medical Technology or on Radiologic Technology. Greensboro College maintains affiliations with several institutions from which certification may be obtained either before or after attending Greensboro College. Neither the College nor its affiliated institutions guarantee admission from the clinical to liberal arts portions of the programs or vice versa.

Urban Ecology
The Urban Ecology major is an undergraduate, interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science program designed to provide students with an understanding of the key elements of urban ecosystems. A sound background in basic biology, ecology, chemistry, and the liberal arts will allow students to develop a clear appreciation of the ecological and sustainability problems facing urban areas in the 21st century. This program will provide majors with practical experience needed for entry-level, ecology-based positions in state and local governments, or to continue their studies in graduate school in related disciplines.

Our department is special because...

The small size of our classes and the firm commitment of our faculty help insure student success in comprehending the natural world of which we are a part. Faculty members, not teaching assistants, run all courses and laboratory sessions. Our courses reflect the wide-ranging interests of our faculty: our teaching and research interests include natural phenomena that range from chemical reactions through entities and processes at the cellular, organismal, and ecosystem levels.
