Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC)
Greensboro College views writing as a way to explore, to learn, to create and to communicate. Recognizing that good communication skills are essential, every discipline offers courses that call for extensive reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Freshman composition classes and other writing classes generally are taught in specially designed, computerized writing classrooms. A professional writing tutorial service is provided at no charge for students, faculty and staff who desire additional guidance or feedback about their communication skills.
The Writing Across the Curriculum program has four main General Education (GE) objectives for student learning in ENG 1100 and 1120.
These are to facilitate students’ ability to:
- Read critically a variety of texts (General Education Objective [GEO] #1)
- Write effectively for different purposes and audiences (GEO #2)
- Speak effectively for different purposes and audiences (GEO #3)
- Reason to reach logical conclusions (GEO #4)

The Fall 2012 Writing Across the Campus and Community series opens with Steven Raichlen, speaking at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, in the Sternberger Cultural Center on campus. Raichlen, a New York Times best-selling food writer, also is the host of the PBS TV series "Primal Grill." The event is free and open to the public.
