"Carve," by Molly Smith Metzler, is the story of struggling artist Josh Darbin, who finally hits the big time when his gruesome painting "Carve" makes its debut in a prominent New York gallery. But when the fictional female subject of his painting appears shivering, angry, and most definitely alive on his Brooklyn fire escape, he is forced to confront his long-time assistant, Jessa, and the secrets they've both been harboring.
